Border Patrolman killed… more questions than answers
[Updated in boldface]
From Maggie’s Madness:
All Mexican agencies are reporting that a USBP Immigration officer was shot and killed last night in the Tecate area. The reports differ however on exactly where and when this took place. AFN is stating that the killing occured by the substation at 9:15 last night, so that would put it in Campo. Frontera is not reporting an exact location. El Mex, however is clearly stating that the shooting took place shortly before midnight last night on the Mexican side in the vicinity of Roca Magisterial and Ejido Jardines del Rincon. AFN is also stating that the officer was beaten first, then shot in the head.
The obvious question is what was a U.S. Border Patrol Agent doing on the Mexican side (assuming he was on duty). [In the comments, Maggie updates this information. The San Diego Union-Tribune says the shooting occurred on the U.S. side, which makes more sense]. There seems to be a round-up of the usual suspects (and the usual assumption that this involved narcotics smugglers), but another confusing detail is the report (in the same paragraph) that the supposed killer was using a weapon only issued to Mexican military, but was a Border Patrol gun. Both cannot be true [It sounds as is the police arrested the guy for “having a weapon reserved for military use” which holds true for just about any firearm, and doesn’t mean a Mexican military issue weapon] .
At the same time, there are conflicting reports on the number of suspects, and — with the U.S. Border Patrol offering a monetary reward, it sounds as if no one believes the real suspects have been identified.
[The Los Angeles Times, and other media are reporting a person in San Jose, California — a very long way from the border — was detained in connection with the slaying. The last time border patrol agents were killed (as opposed for dying in accidents or exertion) was in 1998 when two agents were shot near El Paso].

Richard, those were very early morning reports, and El Mex was wrong. El Mex was also wrong during the day when they first reported a police shootout in Tijuana that same morning, when the police were not involved but it was a shoot out between two vehicles with armed men. The fact is that early reports go on very little information sometimes not always correct, and the agencies will leave up their initial reports and also write up new reports as the day goes on.
I have not checked this morning to see who the gun belonged to, and in my blog I say loud and clear, some are saying it was a Miltary issue and some are saying that it was a USBP issue weapon.
Strange that you have not reported how Mexicans up here are feeling towards the USBP these days – they are viewing them as allies.
And BTW, the FBI reward incentive happened AFTER the Mexicans had already launched a huge sweep of the area – prior to being requested to so by the USA which involved Federal Police, State Preventative Police, Municipal Police and SEDENA.
At about 4:30PM they had captured nine more people.
Richard, this is a hotbed of drug activity, if you don’t believe me, take a looksie at the HUGE busts there & in the Boulevard , Pine Valley areas recently, which the mexican press is making a habit of reporting and I usually put those on my blog.
El Teo is DESPERATE. Yes Richard this is about narcotics, that is the route – it goes from Rosarito over Blvd. 2000 to either Tijuana or Tecate. I believe both sides have been watching this area closely for months now, particulary since months ago almost 19 Tecate Municipal Police were arrested for ties to organized crime and I think they’ve been spilling the beans along with the hundreds of people arrested in this area for ties to organized crime.
Have you ever been to Tecate? The streets are lined with gold.
It is just unfortunate the USBP agent was alone, but I am sure policy will change after this.
BTW, you can register with blogspot to comment, there are no restrictions.

Okay, and even if it were human smuggling, which I really don’t think it was, I think it was dope, that operation is completely run (at least here )by organized crime. Just 2-3 days ago, there was a huge search going on in this same area by Grupo Beta, Municipal Police and the Fire Department for two bodies reported by migrants that the polleros had killed and buried.
Almost daily or at least weekly we see Tijuana Municipal Police breaking up rings of polleros and arresting them and rescuing migrants.
About two months ago, 7 migrants held in a trailer by polleros in this same area, held for more money, the women had been raped, rescued by Municipal Police. Just freakin left to die there in an unventilated trailer, the bastards.
About two months back, a group of thirty held by polleros with automatic weapons, one of those was killed – one wounded, women raped again -this was on the Ensenada-Tecate Hwy. (El Teo’s territory) They were rescued by the Mexican Army.
Now, I’ve received a comment from a Minuteman regarding a witness acccount of where this occured, but I’m not posting it (it’s on You Tube) because I don’t like Minutemen, and I am not going to use this to create a platform for them or for the other side.
Actually, the Union keeps revising their story.
Furthermore, incursions are usually from the Mexican Army, or have been in the past, and only because they get lost.
But you know Mike and I talked about this yesterday and today, and considering all of the evidence and history of the area, neither one of us believes that there is any type of conspiracy going on involving the two governments – i.e. like forinstance, we’ll say this, or we’ll say that, or we’ll say he was here, or we’ll say he was there.
There is however, obvious lack of coordination between both sides, but that’s not unusual, given the fact that for years neither side has really trusted the other.

P.S. One more thing, yesterday was when the updates went up, almost bi-hourly as the news came in.
You stopped at the first paragraph and took what you wanted to print, ignoring everything else, and that is just bullshit Richard and you know it.
So what if someone was arrested a very long way from the border, we are talking about organized freakin crime
with operatives everywhere Richard, and that is not paranoia, that is a reality.
Received your email but when i send you an email it comes back. ~sigh~
No, I am not mad at you.
If it is true about the DHS people sending out racist literature, they should be sacked, end of story. This is the scariest thing about this situation, that it is evoking anti-Mexican sentiment especially among dullards who are screaming close the border, and they are gaining momentum.
Very scary.
