A suspiciously reasonable idea for Arizonans…

21 April 2010

With the Governor of Arizona probably going to sign a particularly stupid piece of legislation that authorizes police officers to arrest anyone they suspect may not be a legal resident of the United States, 7th District United States Representative Raúl Grijala is taking the unprecedented step of calling for a boycott of his state by organizations and groups representing what he believes will be the most affected people by this “papers, please” law.

Good idea, but maybe Arizona police officers like these …

could decide that people who look like this…

raise reasonable suspicions.  After all, everyone knows what REAL ARIZONANS look like:

Horrible stuff. Really just a middle finger to everyone with an accent and with a Mexican last name. You gotta figure it’s only a matter of time before it gets struck down.

I’m shaking my head in consternation. The latest statistics from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, demonstrate approximately 13 percent of illegal immigrants are from Europe, 18 percent from Asia and the Middle East, 18 percent from South and East Asia. That means more than half of the illegal immigrant population is not of Hispanic origin yet the stereotyping prevails.

Obviously, immigration ought to be in federal hands and not in the hands of the states, and this Arizona racial profiling legislation clearly demonstrates why there must be comprehensive immigration reform in Washington.
