Am I being detained, Agent Soto?

1 June 2010

I don’t recommend doing what checkpointUSA does without a lawyer and a video-camera in your car (and a car), but I wonder what is going to happen when local police (in places, like, oh… Carefree, Arizona) decide to check out “suspicious” pedestrians.

Sombrero tip to Bender’s Immigration Bulletin.

I do like these sort of videos. I follow a photography blog which posts these sorts of things daily. Give the police (or any authorities….or perhaps even any human being…) an inch and they’ll take a mile.

These agents, although obviously working at checkpoints not in accordance with the federal law, are nevertheless polite, patient, and should be proud of themselves, especially Agent Soto. I was happy to see them behave in such a manner. This is how law enforcement should behave.

I have real doubts that this is always the case or will be the case when the folks in Arizona have to deal with untrained or poorly trained police who have been taught that hispanics/illegal immigrants are the enemy.

Thank you for posting this. It is scary the way we are allowing the protectors of society to ignore the laws of our country in an effort to protect “us” from “them.” Scarier still is that many in the US actually want this.

      This isn’t about illegal immigration.

This is about conditioning the US public to a police state.
