Two odd things about this morning’s perp photo in Noroeste. The unshacked fellow in the blue sweater is a minor, so his name doesn’t appear in the story. But I guess they can show you his picture. The second oddity is seeing the bloodied victim of the mugging. The sea turtle (a protected species, but — alas — a tasty one) took a blow to the head, but he’s expected to survive.
The Mexfiles has never expected to turn a profit, but personal funds only go so far. Miscellaneous expenses (telephone, internet connection, subscriptions, spyware, hardware repair, etc.) run about 600 pesos (35 US$) a month, and donations are gratefully accepted. We always call those the “guilty pictures,” even though they’re just accused. Up north it would be thought of as a tainting the jury pool. And in SE Mexico, Yucatan’s police always have the minors face away from the camera. We suppose the picture shows they are alive and in police custody, but not sure what good it does to take someone’s picture from behind. Still, it’s a key when you see a group of accused to know who’s adult and who’s not.
I’ve come across a few restaurants on the Pacific coast offering turtle based ‘delicacies’. I probably don’t need to tell you that I left without ordering anything.
