In Victoria Australia, Trinity Grammar School senior literature teacher Christopher Bantick has is a problem… based on the complaints of this one school master, the Victoria Council on Education is striking one of the seminal novels of the last century, Gabriel García Marquez´”Love In The Time of Cholera” from its reading list for high school students. Sniffs the Victorian (and I mean that in both senses) Mr. Bantick, the novel is “not in any shape or form appropriate for 16-year-old girls or boys.”
The schoolmaster with the kind of name Charles Dickens would dream up objects not so much to septuagenarian Florentino Ariza seducing a teenager girl. but that García Marquez doesn’t take moral umbrage at Florentino, but instead lets the dirty old man finally win his “true love” … how unVictorian…
The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what Fiction means.

¨ Love In The Time of Cholera¨, is one of the best books that I have ever read.
And, it is the type of read that is ideal for any young impressionable teenager, say 14 and up. It seems that the Land of Oz has more than its´ fair share of nitwits.
With luck, banning this book will make it insanely attractive to teens.
If so, good. It is a fantastic book and should be more widely read.
