Sombrero tip to Inca Kola News for linking to one of the better written U.S. media reports on foreign mining operations in Latin America… of all places, on Fox News Latino:
It’s from Associated Press, so I won’t quote directly, but well worth reading. What strikes me is the company’s defense of itself as being generous, leaving 35 cents in the country from every dollar it extracts from the country. No mention of how much of that 35 cents will stay in the local community, nor of what social costs will be racked up to be paid by the Guatemalans for their 35 cents.
