I drove to Cabo San Lucas in ’86 and moved there shortly thereafter. Already the development plan by Fonatur was being ignored with buildings and a hotel, Plaza Las Gloria’s, being built directly on the marina instead of the other side of the street to keep the water view open. Greed is the best word that has so aptly described Cabo for many years.

Thanks for this. So sad and depressing. I was planning a trip to the sea of Cortez this winter to see the whales. It almost makes me want to stay home. Do you happen to know the best time (month) for seeing the mother whales and babies? The fellow planning the trip is shooting for late Feb or early March, which seems a little late to me. Saludos, Phyllis

Phyllis, please don’t stay home. Instead, make it a point to patronize only locally owned and run businesses. In particular, find a seafood restaurant that will cook a meal for you from fish or shrimp that was caught that same morning. You won’t be sorry.

Also, at http://baeproject.org/en/info.php , you’ll find links to four local groups that are fighting back. You could, within the limits of Article 33, contact one or more of them, and ask what you can do to help.

So scary! Videos like this one make me cry. What kind of life will my grandchildren have? The international developers have to be controlled But how when Mexican prestanombres and officials put their personal profit ahead of the country’s future?

February is the best time for the whales on the west coast of Baja Sur. Bahia Magdalana was beautiful, and we had awesome whale encounters. We never set foot in Cabo, after we landed went to La Paz, Bahia Magdalana, and ended in Todo Santos. Spectacular trip, no all inclusives, real Mexico, for the most part.
