Their loss is our gain

4 April 2018

Great report by Franc Contreras, of CGTV… not all is gloom and doom for “dreamers” thwarted in their efforts to stay in the United States.

These kids should be at a big advantage with their U.S. educations. Sad to say, but Mexican public education is pretty poor, and whatever deficiencies that U.S. public education has, it’s way above that available SOB. And as the clip mentions, being bilingual also is a huge advantage.

Where the picture is quite a bit less rosy is for kids who end up back in Honduras, Guatemala, or other such place. And as Videgaray (I think that’s him, right?) Mexico can benefit from this returning talent.

An interesting question that the film doesn’t address is this: are those self-deported kids better off now than they would have been if their parents didn’t take them to the USA in the first place? I’d suspect that many of them in fact are better off, even if there were some obvious downsides.

    Interesting video.

Where we’d like nothing better than to be deported back to Massachusetts.
