In addition to the news on the rescue of various reptiles and fish, wishes for the speedy recovery of a caracara, comes the first glimpse of the new 50 peso bill… honoring Xochimilco and everyone’s favorite evolutionary link, Ambystoma mexicanum, the real life “Far Side” cartoon animal.
The Mexfiles has never expected to turn a profit, but personal funds only go so far. Miscellaneous expenses (telephone, internet connection, subscriptions, spyware, hardware repair, etc.) run about 600 pesos (35 US$) a month, and donations are gratefully accepted. Please note that your donations are in Mexican Pesos (18 pesos to the US Dollar as of February 2019). A 25 US$ donation is 450 pesos.

Oh my God! I’m going to have to stop making my favorite joke about the current 50 peso note. “How can you not love a country that issues pink currency printed with butterflies?”
Somehow that swamp creature just isn’t as much fun as the Monarchs of Michoacán. And I suspect some Mexicans may well agree.

My daughter has a pair of these axolotls.
Perfect pets–they do nothing except eat and float quietly.
