Fascist pervert Marcial Maciel dies. Good.
Maciel, born in Michoacán 10 March 1920, was the founder of the Legions of Christ and Regnum Christi. The Legion is a religious congregation, Regnum Christi includes both priests and laymen. Both inculcate absolute, unquestioning fidelity to the ultimate leader (aka, Marcial Maciel) and to rat out any internal critics… sort of like Scientologists, or fascists.
The fascist tendencies in Marciel’s movements is reflected in their support for Franco’s Falangist Spain, and their later support for Mexican synarchism (and, the “confessional wing” of PAN). It’s no accident that Eric Prince, of Blackwater infamy, is one of the groups more enthusiastic backers
Several Roman Catholic Bishops in the United States have thrown the Legion — and Regnum Christi out of their dioceses, mostly because they see the two Marciel organizations as a “parallel church” which discourages its members from contact with “normal” Catholics. Several bishops — and not just in the United States — have also been bothered by overt elitism in these groups, an attitude seen as reactionary to modern church leaders.
Marciel encouraged his followers to target the well-heeled and well-connected (again, like the Scientologists) — with the goal of influencing public policy. With their strict obedience to superiors, these “elites” were the natural allies of people like Franco and Pinochet, and — with their unquestioning fidelity to their Fuhrer, were perfect servants to the Fascists. In Mexico, the Regnum Christi movement took a very sinister turn a few years ago, turning into youth gangs that beat up minorities (indigenous peoples, Protestants, gays) in PANista strongholds like Aguascalientes.
Marciel a favorite of Augustin Pinochet and Imelda Marcos was … alas poor Mexico… coddled by Pope John-Paul II. The late pope brought Marciel along on his three Mexican tours, permitted the two groups expansion and… apparently… turned a blind eye to what exactly Marciel’s “unquestioning fidelity” meant.
Marcial Maciel, was guilty of the sexual abuse of his seminarians, that he was/is addicted to a form of morphine called Dolantin (demerol, meperidine, isonipecaine, dolantol), and that he did indeed abuse his power to control all those beneath him in order to carry out his plans.
There is a whole counter-Legion movement, ReGAIN, for “recovering legionaries.” Their site, and Mexican (and Spanish, and Chilean) court documents detail the charges against Marciel, predatory sexual abuse of his seminarians being the most serious.
Former Hitler Youth Pope Benedict XVI — who one assumes knows a Fascist pervert when he sees one — stripped Marciel of his position, and order his retirement into a monastery to reflect on his past. I guess the Vatican doesn’t have suitable dungeons any more.
Marciel died yesterday. According to Catholic theology, one can’t say for certain that any sinner hasn’t been forgiven, but it’s a good bet Marcial Maciel Degollado hasn’t gone to eternal rest.

This is the biggest load of crap I’ve ever read in my, life, but it all goes to show that the world just witnessed the death of a true Saint. Alphonsus Liguori, Francis of Asissi, etc. do these names ring a bell? Saints of the Church and founders of religious orders they were kicked out of due to lies and deceit. Fr. Maciel can now be mentioned in the same sentence as them. Not a word of evil left his mouth against the media who makes him look so aweful, like he does in this article. I was once a Legionary myself and he was a FATHER to me. He never abused anyone and took NO drugs. Believe what you want, but Fr. Maciel is finally at peace in the hands of our Lord.
Yeap, this man died and was never behind bars. It was an injustice for all the young abused people he hurt.
As a member of Regum Christie, I have to point out a number of inaccuracies in your piece. The Legionaires of Christ and Regnum Christi swear fidelity to the person and office of the Pope and not the Director General.
We are required to espouse humility and remove elitism from our thinking and charater, the exact opposite of what you claim.
Your claim that this Charism organises gangs to beat up minorities is the worst piece of dishonest and immature fiction I have ever read. I run an ECYD group and the objective is to save the souls of the members and help them integrate the message and love of Jesus Christ to all people, whether they are a minority or not.
Your piece is a deliberate lie to attack a way of life that you do ot like. Catholicism teaches us to copy Jesus Christ ad give up the ways of the flesh and the world and give our lives back to Christ. This is the core message of the Legionaries and of Regnum Christie. You obviously dislike self sacrifice of any kind and want to distort this message to suit your own weeknesses. You are willing to embrace lies calumny and bitterness so that your ‘little head ‘can go on ruling your ‘big head.’
I will offer my own mediocre prayers that you and I can both be helped to greater things by Jesus Christ; that I will tell more truths and you will tell less lies.
Even if your article is, without a doubt, extremely subjective and exagerated, this man is burning in hell now… i agree he did a lot of good deeds but they will never be enough to erase the damage he caused to those children. The world is a better place now that another pedofile is dead. And please, before any other Legionary tries to defend him, first imagine your son with Maciel’s dick up his inocent ass. My brother was abused as a child and trust me, his life hasn’t been a pretty story.

immorality needs to be exposed, Luis Garza, Evaristo Sada and John Devlin need to stop covering for this man now as he’s dead so his true life can be examined and then the choice of whether to remain a part of this group can be made by the many members of Regnum Christi.
4. “You become the friends you keep”: Raffaelo Follieri, Erik Prince, the Hanna family in Atlanta (of ethical and fraudulent fame with CompuCredit). Money+Influence-personal morality is the dream LC equation so that the personal morality can be “dispensed” by these holy priests in order to give the donor “peace” and the Legion a “piece”.
I can’t say if he’s a pervert or a pedophile, but Maciel lied a lot and had a lot of others learn to do likewise as well as on his behalf.
We need priests who are humble, who are earnest and who seek to serve. Sadly, Maciel and many LC’s are consumed with Ecclesial power and influence and seem to fly off the reservation.

It was recently mad public the late Macial Maciel is the father to several children living in Mexico. I wander if his sons are going to discern their vocation to the Legion of Christ? MM always said give God the first chance….. I knew this guy was a crooked asshole brainwashing his peons……
I was born in cotija michoacan where maciel was born and i personally know his brothers and relatives i have look into it i actually grew up with some of his nephew and they are very wealthy and educated people ,all i got to say its that he has done a lot good things to our town and to the rest of the world let the man rest in peace and do not judge , if you are not there !!!!!!

I am an ex regnum christi consecrated member… I know first hand that father Devlin acted as Maciels bodyguard. Maciel did not do anything without father devlins knowledge. What responsability does Devline have? I also know of a certain day when know father Oriol (then brother Oriel) was ordered to play tennise with a wealthy woman in order to secure her financial help. When Maciel found out brother Oriol had played tennis with a woman he became enraged and told Oriol he would never become a priest. Only after Oriols superior pleded with Maciel and explained why brother Oriol had played tennis with this lady did Maciel allow Oriol to become a priest.
I just don’t get this. The guy was obviously a sociopath from a very young age. A blind man could see that. Okay, so we found out that he was a child molester, raped seminarians, led a double life, was a drug addict and had a child when he claimed to be celibate. He was a bad man. He was a liar. He was less than we hoped. So am I. Where is the news here?
Only a goof would have thrown their entire trust and life behind someone as cultic and nuts as this super right wing “Catholic”. Let me explain something to you people. A “Catholic” is in how you behave, NOT in what you say you believe. People can believe anything. We found that out in the Inquisition. What do I have to do to drag all the Legionnairies of Christ kicking and screaming into the 19th Century? The Legions’ vision of Catholicism is four hundred years old. I would settle for the Legion accomodating itself to Vatican I. Vatican II can wait till next century.
NO ONE reading this would want me as a fellow parishioner. I am a sinner, a liar, a cheat and a no good bum. No one realizes that better than me. But I have a hope that there is the One God and that he is merciful. NO ONE can earn heaven. It is not possible. Not even a member of the Legion of Christ. They are nutjobs that think that they are living a Catholic life. They are not, a Catholic is involved in the dirt and grime and struggles of the world. A Catholic gets his psyche dirty trying to witness to Christ. You cannot witness to Christ from an ideological platform that is about as real as the Easter Bunny. If your hands are not dirty and your brow is not sweaty trying to witness in some way genuine to yourself, you are a phony at worst and a moron at best.
Stop with all the whining about how bad a man Maciel was. It is not important. HE was not that important. That is my entire point. Let the man rest in peace. He was no worse than I am but he raised a hell of a lot more money for the church than I ever did. That has to count for something.
Full Disclosure: I am a victim of childhood sexual and physical abuse at the hands of nuns and an attempted and flubbed rape by a priest when I was in college. I was drunk…but I was not THAT drunk! Nothing happened. Lucky for him. I am a grandfather, a former seminarian for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and a non practicing anything.
